![]() You might consider the options that they offer for using it as a vertical (Buddistick config) to give you some options over a low dipole as you might find that a low vertical (Buddistick) may beat a low dipole (Buddipole) in some situations. When I don't have anything to hang an antenna on (trees) or I don't want to or don't have room to put up a portable mast (Spiderpole) the Buddipole is great. A Buddipole is one tool but there are others. Like most things, it boils down to the right tool for the job. Just throw out as many radials on the ground at any length using the vert. Radials are absolutely needed on a vertical. Lastly, dont be afraid to setup a vertical, long skip is way better with a vertical than a yagi/dipole if they are not high enough off the ground. If you find that you need a ballun try about 6 turns of coax in a 4 inch diameter circle at the antenna. Setting up an antenna is where you really start learning HamRadio. update us with some pictures when you get her going. remember that a resonant antenna doesnt need a tuner, spend some time with the analyzer and take notes on your setup. Only tip I would give you is it is allot cheeper to tie the antenna down when you setup in the backyard than replacing parts. He occasionally will setup something on the driveway to listen along when we are working DX. He doesn't tx but it sure does a good job. His little KX3 would rock listening to the bands. One of my elmers has the same kit and regularly would put up a beam at about 8 feet in his garage to listen in on 40m.
